Brian K. Patterson is a seminary professor, leadership consultant, and nationally recognized expert in Choice Theory–based leadership and counseling. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, he holds a bachelor’s degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University and advanced degrees in education and psychology. His professional journey spans pastoral ministry, education, and executive leadership development, including work with at-risk students and large-scale government leadership initiatives. Patterson has served in senior roles with the Arizona Department of Economic Security and Goodwill of Central and Northern Arizona, designing and delivering leadership programs grounded in non-coercive, relationship-centered principles. He is a Senior Faculty member with the Glasser Institute for Choice Theory US and the author of Connect and Lead: Choice Theory Leadership at Work, integrating Dr. William Glasser’s concepts with modern organizational practice. He is also a contributing author to The Encyclopedia of Mental Health Trainings, Certifications, and Credentials: A Professional’s Guide to Becoming a Better Mental Health Practitioner and The International Journal of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy.
A deeply personal journey shapes Patterson’s work of counseling, ministry, spiritual reconstruction, and the discovery of grace-centered theology. His counseling and leadership philosophy emphasizes human dignity, intrinsic motivation, and transformation through connection rather than control. With credentials including a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from Villanova University and leadership training through the University of Notre Dame, he brings both academic rigor and practical application to his teaching. Alongside his wife, Jeannie, he lives in Arizona and continues to influence leaders, counselors, and students through seminary instruction, coaching, and curriculum design rooted in freedom, responsibility, and relational leadership.
