Chapel @GGS is different for each participant. For some, it is a supplement to their local gathering, similar to attending a book club or Bible study. For others, particularly pastors and other leaders, its a responsibility-free opportunity to engage with others without everyone looking to them to have an answer. And for still others, Chapel is their local church. All are welcome and encouraged to participate in real, accessible, GRACE community!

Maximos the Confessor reminds us that the mystery of the Trinity is not contradiction, but the beauty of the one God who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - one in essence, yet three in Persons. The good news of the Gospel is that in Christ, we are graciously welcomed into the communion of the Triune God, sharing by grace in the divine life and love that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit eternally share.

As Hildegard of Bingen beautifully captures here, the Holy Spirit, the bond of love between the Father and the Son, unites us to the Triune God and draws all creation into his communion of love.

This profound statement from our seminary president’s chapel message this past Sunday for Proper 19 invites us to see the justice of God through the lens of Jesus Christ. The justice of God is not cold retribution, but the holy love of the Father that refuses to leave His creation captive to sin, death, and brokenness.

In the incarnation, the Son does not stand at a distance from our wounds; He enters fully into our humanity and takes our brokenness upon Himself, carrying it through the cross and into resurrection. In Christ, we see that the Father’s purpose is not simply to condemn what is broken, but to redeem and restore it, making all things new in and through His beloved Son.

This restorative work is not something we merely look back on, for the Holy Spirit continually unites us to Christ and draws us into the life of the Triune God, bearing witness within us to the Father’s love revealed in the Son.

Divine justice cannot leave wounds unhealed. The good news of the gospel is that in Christ, we see the justice of the Father, whose love is determined to restore what has been broken and bring His creation into the fullness of life for which it was made.
