Dean Winn reflecting some serious Truth! 🙌

“There are very few questions upon which it really matters if we are right or wrong. What matters much more, almost all the time, is to be able to enter into meaningful and serious dialogue with those who disagree with us. Being in the world in a new way means caring about communication, becoming sen-sitive, open and concerned enough both to speak and listen in healing ways. I am not talking about clever gimmicks or agreeing with everything everybody says. I am rather affirming that what really counts in most conversations is not what is said, but it is the engagement of two parties, both of whom are struggling for their identity. What matters is that I speak enough to share myself, that 1 listen enough to receive the other person in his fullness, that we commune enough that both of us can be changed.

“I think this has great bearing upon the Church, torn as it is by all kinds of diabolic controversy. I think the issues are important and I think some things are not negotiable, and so do you, and sometimes we may not agree on what they are. But surely the Church is torn over the conservative/liberal, secular/ spiritual splits not because we are pressing toward the truth, but because the persons engaged in the dialogue have an inordinate need to be right, even if it means to destroy persons of other opinions.

“And the same applies to our feeling of the great social issues of the day. We dont really understand the persons on the other side of the ideological fence.

“But the Gospel is not the formulation of an ideology, whether theological, economical, or political. It is rather a power that gets behind all our ideolo-gies. It is a mood which exposes all our need for agreement and all our drive toward victories.

“Society needs persons and communities that can be there in a new way.

“Men of great faith are the ones who can bring it off.”

And what—or who—does He sustain? ALL THINGS!

“Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. He is the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and HE SUSTAINS ALL THINGS by his powerful word.”

(Hebrews 1:1–3, NRSVue)
As the Church continues its celebration of 1700 years since the Council of Nicaea (325 AD), we would do well to consider some of the less commented upon participants, including the most significant theologian to write in the Syriac language, St. Ephraim, who attended in comparable function to that of the more often cited St. Athanasius, as a Bishops personal assistant.

Below is the full text of his 23rd Reflection on God entitled, Our Savior, Both God and Man.

--------------------------------------

Our Savior, both God and Man

We confess one and the same individual as perfect God and perfect Man. He is God the Word Which was [made] flesh.

For if He was not flesh, why was Mary chosen? And if He is not God, whom does Gabriel call Lord?

If He was not flesh, who was laid in a manger? And if He is not God, whom did the angels who came down from heaven glorify? If He was not flesh, who was wrapped in swaddling clothes? And if He is not God, in whose honor did the star appear?

If He was not flesh, whom did Simeon hold in his arms? And if He is not God, to whom did Simeon say: Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace?

If He was not flesh, whom did Joseph take when he fled into Egypt? And if He is not God, who fulfilled the prophesy: Out of Egypt have I called my Son?

If He was not flesh, whom did John baptize? And if He is not God, to whom did the Father say: This is my beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased?

If He was not flesh, who hungered in the desert? And if He is not God, unto whom did the angels come and minister?

If He was not flesh, who was invited to the marriage in Cana of Galilee? And if He is not God, who turned the water into wine?

If He was not flesh, who took the loaves in the desert? And if He is not God, who fed the five thousand men and their women and children with five loaves and two fish?

If He was not flesh, who slept in the ship? And if He is not God, who rebuked the waves and the sea?

If He was not flesh, with whom did Simon the Pharisee sit at meat? And if He is not God, who forgave the sins of the harlot?

If He was not flesh, who wore a man’s garment? And if He is not God, who healed the woman with an issue of blood when she touched His garment?

If He was not flesh, who spat on the ground and made clay? And if He is not God, who gave sight to the eyes of the blind man with that clay?

If He was not flesh, who wept at Lazarus’ grave? And if He is not God, who commanded him to come forth out of the grave four days after his death?

If He was not flesh, whom did the Jews arrest in the garden? And if He is not God, who cast them to the ground with the words: I am He?

If He was not flesh, who was judged before Pilate? And if He is not God, who frightened Pilate’s wife in a dream?

If He was not flesh, whose garments were stripped from Him and parted by the soldiers? And if He is not God, why was the sun darkened upon His crucifixion?

If He was not flesh, who was crucified on the Cross? And if He is not God, who shook the foundations of the earth?

If He was not flesh, whose hands and feet were nailed to the Cross? And if He is not God, how did it happen that the veil of the temple was rent in twain, the rocks were rent, and the graves were opened?

If He was not flesh, who hung on the Cross between the two thieves? And if He is not God, how could He say to the thief: Today thou shalt be with me in paradise?

If He was not flesh, who cried out and gave up the ghost? And if He is not God, whose cry caused many bodies of the saints which slept to arise?

If He was not flesh, whom did the women see laid in the grave? And if He is not God, about whom did the angel say to them: He has arisen, He is not here?

If He was not flesh, whom did Thomas touch when he put his hands into the prints of the nails? And if He is not God, who entered through the doors that were shut? If He was not flesh, who ate at the sea of Tiberias? And if He is not God, on whose orders were the nets filled with fishes?

If He was not flesh, whom did the apostles see carried up into heaven? And if He is not God, who ascended to the joyful cries of the angels, and to whom did the Father proclaim: sit at My right hand?

If He is not God and man then, indeed, our salvation is false, and false are the pronouncements of the prophets.

Love is the very nature of the Godhead. As such, Love has no origin, no starting point, no ‘before’. There has never been a time the entirety of creation was not loved by God. Love is the means by which all things are held together…and is the One in whom all are sustained and consist.

7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us. (1 John 4:7–12, NRSVue)

CERTIFICATE OF GRACE COACHING

Step into your calling as a Christ-centered encourager, equipped not with pressure to fix others, but with the grace to walk beside them.

The Certificate in Grace Coaching at Global Grace Seminary is a transformative program rooted in a Trinitarian, Christocentric, and Grace-Based theological framework. More than just another coaching model, this program reimagines coaching through the lens of divine inclusion, where worth is revealed—not earned—and transformation flows from awareness, not striving.

Grace Coaching is about awakening others to the truth of who they already are in Christ. It’s about helping people see that they are not distant from God, not broken beyond repair, and certainly not disqualified. This program trains you to be a gentle guide, a mirror of divine affirmation, and a voice that reminds others of the union they already share with the Triune God.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Integrate a theology of grace into every coaching conversation

  • Practice deep listening that honors the Spirit at work in each person

  • Cultivate sacred space where shame melts and identity is rediscovered

  • Apply coaching tools from a non-controlling, non-anxious presence

  • Help others experience lasting change rooted in belonging, not behavior

Whether you’re a pastor, counselor, experienced coach, or simply someone who wants to walk more intentionally with others, this certificate will deepen your understanding of grace while sharpening your ability to companion others with compassion and clarity.

Below are a list of the 10 Coaching Courses:

Awareness of Identity

This course invites students into a transformative exploration of their true identity as revealed in Jesus Christ, grounded in the theological framework of Trinitarian Inclusion. Rather than striving to become something they are not, participants will discover that who they truly are has already been embraced, redeemed, and included in the life of the Triune God through Christ…and that nothing we ‘do’ or ‘don’t do’ can change that!

Taught by theologians C. Baxter Kruger, Wm. Paul Young, and Steve McVey, the course unpacks the revelation that humanity’s inclusion in Christ is not an afterthought or contingent on belief, but the eternal intention of the Father, accomplished in the Son, and revealed by the Spirit. Through lectures, readings, and practical reflection, students will uncover how false identities—shaped by shame, separation-thinking, and religious striving—are healed in the light of union with Christ.

Marked by Love

Marked by Love is a transformational journey into the heart of divine reality—where Love is not merely one of God’s attributes, but the very essence of God’s being. Taught by author, retired physician, and experienced coach, Dr. Catherine Toon, students are guided into a deeper awareness that “God is Love” is not a poetic abstraction or spiritual slogan, but the defining revelation of who God is and who we are in Him.

Through theological exploration, Scripture engagement, and practical application, students will discover how the triune God’s relational nature shapes all of creation and redemption. Far from exclusion, divine Love draws all humanity into the eternal fellowship shared by Father, Son, and Spirit. Participants will be invited to examine how being “marked by love” reshapes identity, reorients purpose, and redefines how we see God, ourselves, and others.

With grace-filled insight and pastoral wisdom, Dr. Toon equips students to live from their inclusion in Christ—no longer striving for acceptance, but resting in belovedness. Whether you’re a ministry leader, a spiritual seeker, or someone longing to experience God afresh, this course offers a liberating vision of divine love that heals, restores, and transforms.

Zoay Leadership Development

Leadership within the Church and in broader ministry settings demands far more than strategy, charisma, or theological knowledge—it requires wholeness. Zoay Leadership Development is a course that emphasizes the vital importance of emotional healing and maturity in those called to lead others. Rooted in the theology of unconditional grace, this course explores how unresolved wounds, unacknowledged shame, and undeveloped emotional intelligence can hinder a leader’s capacity to shepherd well—and how grace, not performance, is the starting point for authentic influence.

Students will be guided by Dr. Cory Rice through a pastoral and theological journey that prioritizes personal healing before public responsibility. Drawing from Scripture, psychology, and the grace-centered teachings of Christ, the course will invite students to confront areas of brokenness not with judgment, but with compassion and the radical acceptance of God’s unconditional love. Only by first receiving and embodying this love can leaders create safe, redemptive spaces for others.

This course is ideal for those in ministry, counseling, or leadership roles who desire to lead from a place of integrity, inner wholeness, and Spirit-empowered grace. Participants will leave equipped not only with insight, but with renewed hearts, restored identities, and a leadership model that flows from healed humanity, not hidden pain.

Trauma

This five-part seminar is presented by clinical psychologist and guest lecturer, Dr. Diane Langberg.  Dr. Langberg has been a leading voice in spiritual abuse and religious trauma for over four decades.  A prolific author and speaker, she has given voice to many who hold deep affection for the Church while also acknowledging that major reform is needed.

Students may encounter occasional elements of western evangelicalism in Dr. Langberg’s lectures that are not necessarily in keeping with the views expressed by Global Grace Seminary.  However, these are few and in no way diminish from the concepts she presents on this critically important subject matter.  When evaluating situations from the dichotomy of either ‘part of the problem’ or ‘part of the solution’, not only is Dr. Langberg a part of the solution, she was talking about that solution earlier and louder than practically anyone else.

Ethics

Ethical conduct is not a peripheral concern—it is the very foundation of trustworthy, transformative coaching. This seminar, led by Dr. Tom Barnette, explores the indispensable role of ethics in the life and practice of coaches, counselors, and ministers. With a focus on real-world application and reflective engagement, students will examine core ethical principles, professional standards, and the moral responsibilities inherent to helping professions.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the conviction that ethical behavior is not merely about rule-following but is the hallmark of sound, quality coaching and ministry. Students will be challenged to cultivate ethical self-awareness, foster accountability in practice, and embody trustworthiness in every client or congregational interaction.

Whether students plan to coach, counsel, or minister, this seminar will provide the ethical framework essential for sustainable, compassionate, and integrity-filled service.

Coaching Fundamentals

Taught by pastor and professor Dale HillCoaching Fundamentals introduces students to the essential principles of coaching through a Christ-centered lens rooted in the hope-filled vision of inclusion. This course explores how coaching can serve as a sacred space for transformation, growth, and healing, not by coercion or condemnation, but by affirming the inherent worth, belovedness, and potential of every individual.

Drawing from biblical wisdom, the life and teachings of Jesus, and the inclusive heart of God’s redemptive plan for all creation, students will engage theological and practical frameworks that support authentic, grace-centered coaching relationships. Emphasis is placed on listening with compassion, asking powerful questions, and aligning coaching goals with a deep trust in the divine image already present within each person.

Coaching Obstacles

Taught by Professor Christo NelCoaching Obstacles equips students to identify and meaningfully address the common internal and external hindrances that can undermine the effectiveness of the coaching relationship. Drawing from the theological perspective of grace and the unconditionally loving nature of God, this course explores how fear, shame, unresolved wounds, power dynamics, and unmet expectations can subtly interfere with authentic transformation—for both the coach and the client.

Students will be guided to develop grace-based strategies for navigating these challenges with wisdom, empathy, and integrity. Emphasizing that a good coach is first a healthy coach, Professor Nel invites students into a journey of personal reflection, spiritual grounding, and practical growth. Through case studies, experiential exercises, and theological reflection, learners will cultivate the self-awareness and resilience needed to coach others from a place of wholeness.

Empowering the Client

In this vitally important course, Dr. Robin Smit—author, publisher, and professor—awakens students into a coaching paradigm grounded in the liberating truth that “God is love.” Rather than coaching clients to strive harder, push further, or depend on sheer willpower, this course equips students with strategies to guide clients into a Spirit-led way of living and achieving goals. Drawing from the theological conviction that divine love is not only the heart of the Gospel but also the source of true empowerment, students will learn how to coach others toward breakthrough that flows from trust in the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit.

Coaching Within the Context of Pastoral Care

Taught by pastor and leadership coach, Antoine Lee, this course equips pastors with practical coaching strategies to integrate into their pastoral ministry, enabling them to walk with individuals as they journey from the objective reality of the finished work of Christ toward the personal appropriation of that truth in their lived experience. Rooted in the theology of It is Finished—the declaration that all humanity has been reconciled in Christ—this course emphasizes how coaching can serve as a compassionate, Spirit-led means of shepherding others into awareness, healing, and transformation.

Students will explore how to coach parishioners who intellectually affirm theological truths (e.g., forgiveness, union with Christ, identity in God’s love) but still struggle to experience those realities emotionally, relationally, or behaviorally. Participants will gain tools to foster clarity, unlock inner obstacles, and co-discern with individuals the Spirit’s movement in their stories—guiding them not toward striving, but toward restful awakening.

New Creation Life Coaching: Theology and Praxis

This transformative course explores the essential relationship between theology and coaching, guiding students to develop a coaching practice rooted in the unshakable foundation of grace and relational theology. Taught by pastor and professor Jordan Orick, the course contends that effective Christian coaching is not merely about skills or strategies—it flows from a deep understanding of God’s nature as revealed in Christ: gracious, relational, and restorative.

Students will examine how their view of God directly impacts their view of others and themselves, shaping the tone and trajectory of every coaching conversation. Through a blend of theological reflection, coaching models, and real-world praxis, students will learn to embody a coaching presence that is marked by compassion, curiosity, and the unwavering belief in the divine image within each client.

Key themes include the integration of Trinitarian theology with coaching methodologies, the role of divine grace in transformation, and how to coach others without coercion, performance pressure, or shame. By the end of the course, students will not only gain practical coaching tools but also a renewed theological vision that equips them to walk alongside others with wisdom, humility, and love.
