Maximos the Confessor reminds us that the mystery of the Trinity is not contradiction, but the beauty of the one God who eternally exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - one in essence, yet three in Persons. This profound statement from our seminary president’s chapel message this past Sunday for Proper 19 invites us to see the justice of God through the lens of Jesus Christ. The justice of God is not cold retribution, but the holy love of the Father that refuses to leave His creation captive to sin, death, and brokenness. In the incarnation, the Son does not stand at a distance from our wounds; He enters fully into our humanity and takes our brokenness upon Himself, carrying it through the cross and into resurrection. In Christ, we see that the Father’s purpose is not simply to condemn what is broken, but to redeem and restore it, making all things new in and through His beloved Son. This restorative work is not something we merely look back on, for the Holy Spirit continually unites us to Christ and draws us into the life of the Triune God, bearing witness within us to the Father’s love revealed in the Son. Divine justice cannot leave wounds unhealed. The good news of the gospel is that in Christ, we see the justice of the Father, whose love is determined to restore what has been broken and bring His creation into the fullness of life for which it was made. #divinejustice #proper19 #trinitariantheology #globalgraceseminary

Dr. McVey is also the President of Grace Walk Ministries, a discipleship training ministry located in the Tampa Bay area.
